About This Game A serial killer is terrorizing the streets of Victorian London, and private investigator Sydney Emerson has hit a new low between finding lost dogs and receiving alleyway beatings. The story is developing well so far. Quizzes not very challenging but they are ok with me, it's the story that I care more about. If the developer want to make them more difficult, that's ok too. But I'm sure if the minigame be tear away the whole playing would become even more smooth and pleasing.Like some previous player commented, if you played some Wadjet eye games before and you liked them, this one is for you, because I am another living proof of that. Finally, I can see the cemetery is there and I was not given chances to exploit it, so I have reasons to believe Act II is already in development, thus I really wish it will come out soon.. This game sat in my Library as I waited for its continuation... which leads me to my negative review. Although I enjoyed what I played, I really can\u2019t recommend this game until \u201cAct 2\u201d comes along. There were a lot of positives, including the atmosphere, humorous dialogue, a good story with fairly good characters, cool surreal dream sequences, and the Shove Ha'Penny mini-game that (I guess since it was tweaked) was a lot of fun. The negatives though outweighed all those for me. The control was very fiddly and picky, so you had to repeat a lot of actions\/dialogue because you didn\u2019t click the precise pixel. Also the timing of the arm wrestling was really irritating, much more than the ha\u2019penny game. I could overlook all that but not the frustration of being left hanging without any resolution of the plot - especially since it\u2019s a murder mystery! So as interesting as it was, it became just a pointless time-waster.. Very competent adventure game, exquisitely written. The script puts most games in the entire Steam library to shame. Delicious period writing, entertaining and modernised just enough to read easily. The path through the game is linear, but it's such a good yarn, and manages to grip and move you from its earliest scenes; quite a feat since you don't know the characters yet. Characterization goes from witty caricature to subtle, sometimes chilling subtext, with a few good laughs in the mix.And there are some grotesque, disturbing passages in here. This game was not made for kids, that is for sure. The music is very good and sets a great ambience, I'm tempted to buy it from Bandcamp. All of the usual pitfalls were avoided:- no waiting around for the character to move excruciatingly slowly to another screen: you can double-click the exit.- no unskippable dialogue unfolding at a snail's pace, you can click through text once you've read it and there's no voice acting. A better choice than in, say, Technobabylon, where it was mostly wasted resources.Even so the runtime exceeds 3 hours and those are packed with good adventuring.- no fixed resolution, the art looks great even in full-screen at 1440p.- no stupid button to display every clickable item in the scene, a design shortcut that often points to faulty design and makes up for bad signposting or an overwhelming number of futile interactions.- no frustrating pixel hunt or inventory absurdity. Some leaps of logic but they are amusing and don't halt you for long.TLDR: A perfect game for All Hallows' Eve, suitable all year long of course if you are, like me, ever susceptible to the titillation of late-Victorian gloom and Ripper fiction. I hope to play through Act II before autumn next.. I'm definitely not feeling "backer's remorse" for contributing to the development of The Slaughter. Alexander Francois has developed a game he should be proud of and while I have some minor quibbles with the game, its quirky characters, intriguing plot and entertaining puzzles have won me over. It contains all the crucial ingredients for a top notch point 'n' click adventure but with an indie game price tag.http://www.choicestgames.com/2016/02/the-slaughter-act-one-review.html
